I was new to butt stuff in general when I bought my progasm jr a couple years ago, and I’ve only recently started really using it in earnest. When I first insert it, it feels like it punches my prostate. It’s a short, really intense burst. I wouldn’t mind if the rest of the session involved that but the sessions are usually okay at best. It might be that I don’t know how to psych myself into a heightened sexual state and that’s what my rewiring will be, but I feel like it’s possibly also my technique.
I have very strong kegel muscles and have no problem flexing and holding, but I feel a greater sensation from flexing without the toy than I do with it. Without it, I get a buzz in my pelvic region and a fog in my head. With it, it feels like something is just shifting around slightly without stimulating much. I usually give it a few dozen pumps, sometimes holding it for 10 or 15 seconds, expecting something to build up. The initial punch from insertion feels much better than the lax sessions that usually follow.
Am I doing something blatantly wrong, using the wrong toy, or something I haven’t thought of? And should the toy (to stimulate the “punch”) be shifting in and out of my ass or (as it usually goes) is it supposed to stay fully inserted?

Follow-up: the best sensations I’ve felt during sessions has been when I pull outwards on the p-tab and shift it forward towards my bellybutton. This makes it feel like it’s really hitting the prostate which is great, but at the same time it feels like what people describe as milking. It’s a deep, warm, slightly uncomfortable feeling in my penis akin to when you pee without drinking any water that day.
Kegels are great for raising your awareness of the sensations in your pelvic floor / prostate area, but I (personally) think they’re counter-productive when actually using the Aneros.
Have you ever been so relaxed that the sensations in all of your limbs melt away? Like, you’re laying on your back, feeling each limb getting heavier and heavier, dropping into the floor, then suddenly your perception of the individual limbs vanishes? Or you’re breathing deeply and slowly let go of conscious control of it and at the same scan your abdomen for tension and slowly release it until your whole body feels completely weightless?
Those types of deep relaxation are more valuable for aneros use. Once all the other sensations melt away, you might find that buzz surfacing in your pelvic floor. Without any other sensations to dilute it, the feeling can grow bigger and bigger. It’s more like relaxing and “hypnotizing” yourself into a mental orgasm rather than clenching your way to a physical build up.

Slow down
My intuition that you’re contracting way too hard as you say you have very strong kegels. It’s a much more subtle contraction than you think.
Try holding a very light contraction during a 5 count in breath and then relax completely on a 5 second exhale. You may have to practice feeling what your max or 100% contraction feels like, then try more holding reps at 50% then half that for 25% and last see what the lightest possible contraction you can maintain would be. You may find the toy starts twitching or contracting involuntarily. Think subtle light sensations and tune into your whole body.
Best advice for your situation would be to practice meditation, increasing arousal (not pace or strength of contraction), and listening to some sexy gone wild audio tracks with a lot of relaxation techniques in them. You have strong kegels, now get a strong mind. Clean the slate and start with a fresh outlook and open mind. Remember your brain is the most important sex organ
