I’ve been trying off and on for a few years now and I’ve gotten few worthwhile results. I’ve tried several different strategies and none of them work well for me. It seems like I have to do all of the following at once:
1. Stay physically relaxed
2. Don’t get overhyped and start thinking about what it might feel like later / stay in the moment
3. Enjoy the sensations
4. Be mindful of the aneros’s movements
5. Breathe steadily
I’ve been using the “do nothing” method because anything else would require even more concentration. I’ve tried just focusing on relaxing and doing nothing else but most of the time I do that I just fall asleep. I’ve tried porn but that distracts me from staying in the moment / feeling the sensations. When I don’t focus at least a little on 3, any pleasure that happens is somehow distant / unimportant and I don’t get any enjoyment out of it.
I do have ADHD, so that’s part of the problem. I can get it in comfortably and it doesn’t hurt at all even manually pulling it in all the way. I can stay relaxed. I just can’t seem to juggle all the right mental tasks at the same time. What am I supposed to do?

Are you holding any kind of baseline contraction? That was the key that made the do nothing method work for me.
Basically, put it in and get good and relaxed like you already are, and then fully contract your sphincter muscles. That’s your 100% point. What you want to hold is something like a 20-30% contraction. After awhile, the muscles will get tired and start to twitch, and from there you can back off on holding the contraction and let your body do its thing.
I know that contracting seems counterproductive to a do nothing approach, but it’s more like giving yourself a little push in the right direction to get the ball rolling.
